Yacht Rock Captain Pt 1: The Hits

Yacht rock (if you've been living under one) was a smooth-ass music movement in the late-70s, early-80s that took place primarily in Los Angeles. It was characterized by fat bass lines, tight rhythm sections, some tropical bongos, jangly little guitar stabs, saxophones, and soaring strings and harmonies. Basically it was just jazzed-up and slowed-down disco with ultra-white vocals and exceedingly slick production. Some people hate it, but to me it represents palm trees and captain's hats, smug grins and sloppy martinis. I suggest you get on the gangplank and join me. You could use a little sun and the sway of the water.

Part 1 is stuff you probably already know. Part 2 is forthcoming, and will contain more obscure tracks for the connoisseur.
